Elevating Your Client’s “Before, During and After” With a Luxury Mindset- Marcello Recommends: “Exceptional Experiences” by Neen James

Exceptional Experiences: Five Luxury Levers To Elevate Every Aspect of Your Business by Neen James

Neen James, AKA, The Fabulously Thoughtful, Brilliant, and Gorgeous Aussie Energizer Bunny, just released another must-read guidebook for business leaders and entrepreneurs who are looking to up-level their mindset from lackadaisical to luxurious.

Just like “Folding Time” and “Attention Pays,” Neen’s latest literary effort offers the reader myriad ways to optimize their commercial ecosystem management. Each chapter reveals how your company’s framework, mindshare, and market share all demand and deserve complete congruence.

Without giving it all away, the short version of the book, in the world according to Neen, is that Luxury is about experiences- not just a price tag. Luxury is the art of making people feel special and seen. Neen once again did a silly amount of research for this book and as usual, she created an easy-to-follow “Experience Elevation Model” to take the guesswork out of how to create these illusive feelings and experiences for your clients, team, or loved ones. Whether this is done via a professional “strategic collaboration” or a more personalized “champagne moment,” Neen covers it all in short, easy-to-follow chapters with some bonus quotes from her trusted inner-circle of influence.

I’m grateful to be among the lucky few in Neen’s orbit who can attest to the fact that she practices what she preaches (writes).Neen is a cherished friend, cheerleader, and mentor. If that warm and cozy feeling you get from a first class experience could be wrapped up into a person and their actions, you’d get Neen James sitting next you in a cashmere sweater sipping a glass of champagne in the penthouse suite of the Four Seasons making you feel even better than she does. It’s a gift for sure.

Ok, ok, enough crush gushing from me; let’s let Neen speak for herself. Here are a few of my favorite excepts from “Exceptional Experiences”:

  • “While we sometimes might struggle to identify the perfect luxury experience, we instantly recognize its opposite: those friction-filled interactions that leave us frustrated, disappointed, and wondering why it had to be so hard. Those interactions are costing your business money. They are not leaving the impression that your brand is exceptional. True luxury eliminates those pain points, replacing them with seamless, thoughtful experiences that feel natural and extraordinary.”

  • “Luxury transcends industry.”

  • “Don’t just listen with your ears. Listen with your eyes, heart, and soul.”

  • “The more systems you have for making everyday decisions, the more valuable real estate you free up in your beautiful brain to focus on the important creative thinking.”

  • “How do you want to feel during this experience? How do you want to feel afterward?”- Matthew Upchurch

I thought this was a great question to ask a client. This is what I call reverse engineering or what my friend Jim Cerone calls “Managing Expectations.”Basically, you start with the end in mind and work backwards. Yes, there’s still room for some “surprise and delight” moments but you’ve nearly guaranteed that your efforts will be directed and budgeted accordingly during the interaction.

  •  “When you say that you’re great, it’s marketing. When other people say you’re great, it’s magic.” -Brittany Hodak

I loved this reminder from Brittany.  Anyone can create a swanky brand and faux-luxe image online, but sooner or later, the public will have the final word.

I’ve known Neen for 2 decades. I’ve seen her deliver powerful keynotes and also help presenters like me take their careers to the next price point. I’ve heard from Neen’s executive coaching clients how beneficial the relationship was and have also personally reaped the benefits of her guidance. And if you want to see how solid her corporate leadership consulting division is, just take a look at a few brands under her Goldi-luxe spell of just-right-ness….Comcast, Viacom, and Four Seasons.
